To all of you moms with girls…bless you bless you bless you! I knew it would be a challenge..but I didn’t know it would be a challenge. The moment you the ultrasound tech says “It’s a girl!” either one of two things happen—you immediately think of all of those frogs you kissed back in the day ( and maybe you did more than kiss..we aren’t judging…okay maybe just a little but it’s cool!), and you think “it’s my karma”; Or you think “yay! I can’t wait to dress her up and put bows in her hair!”. Either way, it’s a setup. I mean..raising a daughter..this Is the stuff champions are made out of! Boys are way too easy..had I known that first..well..whatever (who am I kidding right?)..anyways..GIRLS! All kids repeat things their parents say at times (like that time you dropped that can of peas on your toe?)..all of them mimic talking on the phone..rubbing lotion on there hands..you know the basics..but girls are the ones that mimic the eye rolls..the tongue sucking..the “Oh my Goodnesses” of the world! Like I said in the first post, this is not the blog for political correctness or thoughts of global warming, or even Yellow 5 in the Kraft Macaroni..so when I say sometimes I want to ask the heavens why my daughter is acting a little bitchy, don’t call DSS on me– It’s just the way I feel! There were times when she would says things like “Mommy are we ‘fin to go to the store?”, and I would correct her and say “ ‘about’ Ariel, not ‘fin, ‘about’”. That was a while ago..she’s got the understanding of proper English. But then there are those times we are heading out, and I yell to my husband “Ronny I’m ‘fin to go to the store, I’ll be back!” and she jumps in to “help” me get it right! “Oh mommy, you mean ‘about’ don’t you”? What do you do, even when you’re pissed your 6 year old just corrected your country grammar? Do you say “I’m grown, don’t worry about it”? No—of course not! As much as It may irk you in the moment, you say “you’re right, mommy should say it correctly”, and then you get in the car and ask God “Lord what have I gotten myself into?”. I’m going to give you a virtual pat on the back, because I know that if you have a girl, you’ve had these moments. Maybe you aren’t as much a Carolina girl as me, and you don’t know what ‘finna’ is, that’s okay, I’ll teach you. The point is..these little girls are waiting to catch you slipping! So be ready, and stay poised, and if all else fails..have a sip of something and keep it moving.
Until my next “Inspired” event,
The Depleted Mom
P.S. Does your darling of a daughter jump at the chance to correct your every mistake? Please Share..if you dare!
What is depleted? Well according to the Word of Wikipedia, it means “to greatly reduce the amount of something” or in my case EVERYTHING..does that sound about right to you? Well if your life is anything like mine, then it sounds like it was a word created just for us! Now I don’t want to sound too miserable, or even unhappy..but there are many moments that I am, and that’s okay! That’s what life is all about isn’t it? Ups and Downs.. I do think if you feel down about being down, then you’re going to stay down. Have you ever heard of anyone trying to get out of a ditch by digging a bigger hole? I haven’t, but if you have, you should probably call your local news station, I’m sure they are looking for something for that 5 o’clock spot! This is not the blog for why organic is the way to go..or how TV is the #1 enemy of today’s youth. This is just a blog about whatever I’m feeling..what disgusting thing my 14mo old ate today…The dumb things my husband does and says that I’m sure yours does too..or what off-the-cuff comment my daughter made in the store about a smelly guy standing directly in front of us. We all have these days..I don’t care if you have 1 kid or 6 (bless your heart)..we all can relate to the madness of the family life. So I’ll share, and my hope is that you will share, and relate and if you can’t that’s okay too.. join the fold of depleted moms around the internet : ). Maybe we can help each other gain some energy and insight—or just sit back and laugh! Either way, welcome to The Depleted Mom!
